After a record-breaking completion of the largest merger in the global automotive industry, Chrysler, the top three car brands in the US, once again stood on the cusp of the clock after a lapse of nine years. On May 14, local time in Germany, the DaimlerChrysler Group announced that Cerberus Capital Management, a private equity fund, will acquire Dai Yike’s troubled Chrysler Group for 5.5 billion euros (7.4 billion U.S. Dollars or about 55 billion U.S. dollars) 80.1% stake in financial services business. In a note, Daimler-Chrysler said Cerberu will receive a 80.1% stake in a newly formed Chrysler holding company, while Dyke will still hold the remaining 19.9% stake. The statement said the newly formed Chrysler Holding Company pays employees for their pensions and Medicare payments, meaning the Daikko Group will face a net cash outflow of 500 million euros. Stimulated by this news, as of 16:41 on May 14 Beijing time, DaimlerChrysler shares rose more than 7%.
