On July 11, the General Office of the State Council promulgated “a number of policies on supporting the development of traditional Chinese operas.” On July 29, a national symposium on opera work was held and the whole society was promptly aroused widespread concern. Many opera workers are even more joyful. Everyone invariably compared this document with the “Directive on Opera Reform” issued by the State Council on May 5, 1951. Such a document that is purposely lofty, realistic and well-equipped provides a strong guarantee for the artistic practice of the development of traditional Chinese operas. It also sets new standards and requirements for the theoretical work of opera.
