Background / Aim: The mechanism by which intrauterine vascular rupture leads to the development of fetal ileal atresia (JIA) has not been fully elucidated. The death of one fetus in monochorionic twins is now linked to the generation of JIA, a substance-exchange survivor through the placenta. The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether placental vessels are involved in the development of JIA. Methods: 45 JIA newborns (23 males and 22 males) admitted to the Tsukuba University Hospital from 1978 to 2003 were retrospectively analyzed. 23 cases of placental examination results can provide useful information
