June 24, 1998 It is an honor to participate in this year’s “International Irrigation and Drainage Day” commemoration on behalf of the UNDP Resident Mission in China. The commemoration of such a theme is of crucial importance to China’s sustainable development. Perhaps the greatest challenge we will face in the next century is how to meet the diminishing freshwater resources without affecting the next generation’s greatest demand for water resources
