Two researchers at the Caltech Institute of Technology in the United States are studying the use of forced-vibration tests to test dams’ interaction with reservoir water and dams and foundations during an earthquake. Civil engineering assistant professor John E. Hall and civil engineering research student Ziyad Duron started the experiment of inducing steady-state reaction of the dam body and the reservoir water pressure in the summer of 1984 with a shaking machine. The experiment was based on the method of conducting tests at the Xianghongdian Dam in China, jointly conducted by Prof. Ray. W.
