Therefore, it is self-evident that strengthening the economic research of wastewater treatment and scientifically designing, constructing, and managing wastewater treatment plants. At present, a prominent issue is the emphasis on establishing an economic objective function for the optimal design of wastewater treatment plants. As we all know, a wastewater treatment plant is a complex system consisting of a number of unit processes. The cost and efficiency of each unit process are linked and interact with each other, and ultimately determine the cost and efficiency of the entire system. Take, for example, a simple system consisting of an aeration tank and a secondary settling tank. The biological solids residence time of the aeration tank is longer, the treatment efficiency is naturally higher, the construction cost is correspondingly increased, and the oxygen absorption rate is reduced.
