茅盾,作为中国现代文学史上功绩卓著的文学巨匠,既是伟大的作家,又是杰出的文艺评论家。在这两方面,他都给我们留下了极为珍贵的财富。长期以来,我们对于作为伟大作家的茅盾的研究还比较广泛而深入,但对于作为杰出的文艺评论家的茅盾,尚缺乏全面而系统的研究。正如周扬《在全国首届茅盾研究学术讨论会上的讲话》中所说:“我觉得好象存在这样一种认识,就是只把茅盾看成是个大作家,而对作为编辑、评论家的茅盾的贡献,研究得比较少,评价不够。我认为,茅盾同志不仅是一个作家,而且作为一个评论家,甚至解放后主要是个评论家,应该有他的历史地位。我并不是说他的评论
