The alkylation of benzene with 1 hexene which gives 1 phenylhexane and 2 phenylhexane were achieved under mild conditions by use of neutral π arene complex of lanthanide Ln(η 6 C 6H 6)(AlCl 4) 3. The effect of Ln(η 6 C 6H 6)(AlCl 4) 3 and reaction conditions on the alkylation reaction were studied.
