It is reported that Canada’s Roger company in Toronto, invested nearly 500 million US dollars to build a CATV optical transmission system. The system will be designed by American Lightwave Systems (ALS) and its Canadian subsidiary, Adcom, Inc. The equipment and software needed for the network will also be provided by them. ALS calls this network “the first true CATV communications network.” Various terminals on the network with spare lines can send multiple signals through the channel. In the event of a primary transmission line failure, the secondary switching system automatically reselects the route. System channel calibration and status monitoring are controlled by the center. The object of status monitoring refers not only to all optoelectronic switching devices
