We use self-designed integrating sphere to measure the thermal coupling coefficient of several LY12 aluminum alloy targets with different surface conditions to CWCO2 laser (about 40W). Compared with the classical theoretical value under the ideal condition, the measured value of the thermal coupling coefficient is too large, which is analyzed in the article. The results show that the surface defects of the material will enhance the thermal coupling to the incident laser
