Eight years ago, Hoffman et al. Published an article in “New Engl JMed” that peripheral blood lymphocytes in patients with aplastic anemia can inhibit erythrocyte growth in normal bone marrow. At the same time, it suggests that the growth of granulocyte progenitor cells is partially restored through the treatment of anti-thymocyte globulin and complement, or the removal of lymphocytes from patients with aplastic anemia by gravimetric precipitation. These studies show that some cases of bone marrow failure is due to “autoreactively inhibited” T-lymphocyte inhibition of bone marrow progenitor cells
