砚是我国古代文化的一大瑰宝,它最原始的作用就是将墨色及颜料研磨至细,以利书写。汉代至两晋有圆形三足砚,北朝盛行方形四足砚,隋唐则多龟式、屐式、箕式及山峰多足式等各种式样的砚。济南市博物馆收藏一件唐代龟形四足陶砚(图1),高8.3、长20厘米。其龟引颈回首,四足直立,情态生动。龟背巧作椭圆形砚池,池内残留墨迹。四足之上有阴刻的弦纹装饰,1976年山东省济南市历城区
