A1GP was launched in 2005 by the Sheikh Maktoum, a royal family member of the United Arab Emirates, and co-founded with South African mining giants Brian Menell and Tony Teixeira. Already two years have passed since the first season of 2005 and the A1GP has been successfully operated by A1GP last year with 11 stations globally this year, up to 13 this year and teams from each of the host countries participating in the competition.
