Shell effects in particle emission for two doubly magic nuclei~(123)Sn and~(208)Pb were studied in the frameworkof Smoluchowski equation taking into account temperature and spin-dependent shell correction. It is shown that the shelleffects in the emission of pre-scission neutrons are sensitive to the spin dependence of the shell correction at a moderateexcitation energy. Therfore, we propose to use neutron multiplicity as an observable to probe the shell correction athigh spins.
