厚皮甜瓜(Cvcumis melo L.)原产中非,适于在温暖、强光、空气干燥和昼夜温差大的气候条件下生长。我国厚皮甜瓜的生产,长期以来仅限于新疆、甘肃和内蒙等少数地区,自80年代前后,郑州、保定等地先后开展了厚皮甜瓜“东移”研究,为在华北平原开辟新产区提供依据。但在我国南方多雨地区尚无厚皮甜瓜商品性生产的报道,因为南方春夏季雨日多、湿度大、日照弱、温差小,这种早期阴冷、后期湿热的天气条件,不利于厚皮甜瓜的生长。
