The p16 gene is a tumor suppressor gene whose encoded product is an inhibitor of CDK4 and plays a negative regulatory role in the cell cycle. Mutations and deletions of the p16 gene lose their regulation of the cell cycle, resulting in abnormal cell proliferation and tumor formation. The p16 gene is closely related to brain tumors. The rate of p16 gene deletion in glioma cell lines, primary glioma and glioblastoma is high. In non-astrocytoma, there is little p16 gene change. The mechanism of inactivation of p16 gene mainly includes gene mutation, gene transcription and translation abnormalities, may be related to the change of Rb gene or the increase of CDK4
