When using a precision tracking radar system, the constant challenge has been the multipath effect and the ground-reflection interference effects that often occur when tracking targets at low pitch angles. Preliminary studies of multipath effects have shown that a millimeter-wave tracker can be precisely tracked at low pitching angles and has successfully tracked targets of 100 feet above sea level. When the slope distance reaches 3000 yards, the multipath error is still less than 0.4 mop. However, in the practical application of millimeter wave system, the weather and propagation restrictions must also be considered. The solution is to use a Ka and X band dual frequency system that can track independently any of the three radar coordinates using one of two frequencies.
