Gases produced using the latest premixed propane burner are sent by fan to the grain piles to prevent stored grain pests. Alton Gas co-developed this “gas generator” with senior scientists at the Central Science Laboratory at the Department of Agriculture. The furnace is housed in a cooling reaction unit with a maximum gas flow of 17 standard cubic meters per hour at temperatures below several degrees below the ambient temperature and oxygen contents below 1%. The gas generator prototype is equipped with associated safety Device. After a 180-ton wheat farm silo pilot, the killing rates for both Grains and Rough Crackers are good. The research was awarded the Small Government Research and Technology Award of the British Government.
