“陶壁”是日本公共环境艺术当中盛开的一朵奇葩,在城市公共环境中扮演着十分重要的角色。陶壁普遍存在于城市广场、车站、酒店、剧院、村镇的街道等等室内外公共环境空间。“陶壁”自古就有,诸如巴比伦伊斯塔尔门的琉璃高浮雕神兽;古埃及的绿釉陶壁;中国的九龙壁、画像砖;伊斯兰清真寺、西班牙、荷兰等地的花砖陶壁,这些都表明陶壁早已不单纯是护壁,更多是作为审美装饰品存在了。但现当代的日本陶壁是以一种较新概念提出的。本文以日本、欧美等国家的公共环境陶壁为研究对象,探讨了陶壁的功用、特点、创作时注意的问题,陶壁如何与环境相结合以及陶壁发展的趋势。
