中國古代服制中,帝王及高級官員禮服上裝飾的十二種紋樣稱作“十二章”。這“十二章”的名目,文獻記載不一。在漢晉時,主要有三種說法。其一見《尚書》僞孔傳:《古文尚書·益稷》:予欲觀古人之象,日月星辰山龍華蟲作會宗彝,藻火粉米黼黻絺繡,以五采彰施于五色作服,汝明。【僞孔傳:日、月、星爲三辰。華,象草華。蟲,雉也。畫三辰、山、龍、華、蟲於衣服、旌旗。會,五采也,以五采成此畫焉。宗廟彝樽亦以山、龍、華、蟲爲飾。藻,水草有文者。
