As a gloomy, serious and unscrupulous work, it continues Austin’s marriage-themed tradition, presenting Austin’s personal experience and relatives’ language to readers in a realistic way. Fannie Price, the protagonist of the novel, is considered the incarnation of Austin. This article begins with Fanny Price’s “Other ” identity, discusses Fanny’s pursuit of identity, access to dialogue, from the edge to the center of the process.
