Among Mexicans’ historical memories, Marianchech, an Indian woman serving Spaniards during the conquest of the 16th century, bore the burden of surrendering his countrymen and betraying his countrymen. Laura Eschweiler, in her novel “Marchetta”, shaped a different Marcelo from the images of former sinners. The existing comments mostly analyze this image in the novel from the perspective of feminism or power discourse. This article attempts to interpret the text in the perspective of cultural studies from the perspective of national identity construction and find out the deeper meaning of the reconstruction of Marche cuttings by writers.
