深刻反思近一个世纪社会主义的实践，重新认识社会主义实践的新阶段，可以得到社会主义的新结论：社会主义既非资本主义、又非共产主义的独立的历史阶段。社会主义初级阶段是这一独立阶段的初级阶段。当代的现实社会主义，既摆脱物的奴役，在本质上不同于资本主义；又未摆脱对物的依赖，在本质上又不同于共产主义第一阶段。
Deeply reflecting on the practice of socialism in the past century and re-understanding the new stage of socialist practice, we can get a new conclusion of socialism: Socialism is neither an historical stage of capitalism nor an independent communism. The primary stage of socialism is the initial stage of this independent stage. Social reality of the present era, which is free from the enslavement of things, is essentially different from capitalism; yet it has not got rid of dependence on things and is essentially different from the first stage of communism.
