以Maxwell方程组为基础,对平板金属覆盖层离子交换玻璃波导进行了理论分析和实际测试。由波导的本征值方程的数值计算表明在离子交换玻璃波导中,金属覆盖层对TE模和TM模的影响相差甚远,TE模的损耗远小于TM模(特别是TM_0模),因此,此类波导可以应用于集成光学中的选偏器及相干光通信的偏振控制器件。对制成的波导进行了测试,实验结果与理论计算值吻合。
Based on Maxwell’s equations, theoretical analysis and practical testing of ion-exchange glass waveguide with flat metal cladding were carried out. Numerical calculations of eigenvalue equations show that the influence of metal overlay on the TE mode and the TM mode is very different in the ion-exchanged glass waveguide and the loss of the TE mode is far less than that of the TM mode (especially TM_0 mode). Therefore, Such waveguides can be applied to polarization control devices in polarization separators and coherent optical communications in integrated optics. The fabricated waveguides were tested and the experimental results agree well with the theoretical ones.
