世纪之交,全球电子商务(Electronic Commerce)的发展速度之快,令人瞩目。互联网正在改变着全球经济,电子商务正在创造着新的商务模式。电子商务的基本理念 美国经济学家,也是最早提出电子商务概念的托马斯·马龙教授把电子商务分为狭义的电子商务和广义的电子商务。前者指的是在运用电子化的买与卖的过程中,卖方找到潜在客户并了解其需求,而买方找到潜在的卖主并了解其产品的销售条件等。后者指的是商业活动中所有的方面都得到了信息技术的支持,这些活动不仅包括了买和卖,还有设计、制造和管理等。托马斯·马龙教授强调的是电子商务的信息技术和经济运行环境。
