According to customs statistics, from January to October 2007, China’s total import and export volume reached 1,759.32 billion U.S. dollars, up 23.5% over the same period of last year. Among them, the export was 1,981.84 billion U.S. dollars, up 26.5 percent, the import was 773.88 billion U.S. dollars, up 19.8 percent, and the import-export surplus reached 213.36 billion U.S. dollars, an increase of 59%. In the same period, China’s agricultural exports reached 28.83 billion U.S. dollars, up 17.4 percent over the same period of last year and imports reached US $ 32.58 billion, an increase of 226% over the same period of last year. From January to October, the trade deficit was 3.75 billion U.S. dollars, up 86.8% over the same period of last year. Agricultural exports accounted for 2.9% of China’s total exports, imports accounted for 4.2% of China’s total imports. Since 2007, with the gradual attainment of domestic macro-control policies, the trade structure has shown a clear and favorable change. Under the influence of the continued global economic growth, strong demand and continued appreciation of the euro and most countries’ currencies, China’s foreign trade has maintained its import and export More than 20% of the rapid growth, continue to maintain a greater than the progress of the situation. Especially in terms of export of agricultural products, the measures of trade barriers adopted by foreign countries under the pretext of food safety continued to rise in 2007, putting tremendous pressure on the export of Chinese agricultural products. With the great attention of the Central Government and the State Council, the export growth of agricultural products still maintained a good momentum in 2007 with the serious response of relevant departments and the industry. This achievement was hard-won. However, the situation in 2008 is still grim, which requires China to seriously study and actively respond to ensure the steady growth of agricultural exports.
