Gum Metal refers specifically to a class of titanium alloys that meet certain electronic state parameters and compositional conditions with a number of specific properties such as room temperature superplasticity and low work hardening, high strength after cold swaging with over 90% Linear hyperelasticity, low Young’s modulus, and Invar and Elinvar properties. Since the advent of Gum Metal, its mechanism of specific performance and deformation mechanism has always been a big controversy. In this paper, author’s research work in recent years, from the alloy design, preparation technology, performance, compositional sensitivity and plastic deformation behavior and several other aspects, a comprehensive review of the research status of such alloys.
