县域发展的依托在于城市,城市在于个性。要实现赶超发展目标,必须打造城市品牌,提高城市核心竞争力。从这一认识出发,近年来,蓬莱市以建设“人间仙境、和平圣城”为目标,不断加快城市化进程。他们按照“一体两翼”的发展思路,集中财力、集约投入,提升了城市形象。目前,全市城区面积22.5平方公里,城区人口20万人,城市他水平达到48%。蓬莱先后荣获“中国优秀旅游城市”、“全国卫生城市”、“山东省适宜人居环境奖”等称号。
