从桐城殿军姚永朴的两部文论著作《国文学》和《文学研究法》考察其文论思想在承续桐城派同时发生的新变,主要得出三个结论:从崇古文、抑骈文转变为主张诗赋一家、骈散同源;借助曾国藩的文论思想为过渡,将姚鼐关于文章风格的“阴阳刚柔”说扩充为内涵更为丰富的“文境”说;重点强调了先前桐城派所忽略的文章与时代的关系,提出文章要“切世”、“匡时”。
