占我国面积约六分之一的新疆维吾尔自治区,自古以来就是中国领土不可分割的一部分。但是,就“新疆”一词的来源及其含义,历来中外学者作过各种不同的解释,更有某些人进行歪曲和编造。很有必要对这一问题作进一步科学而又明确的说明。 The Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, which accounts for about one sixth of our area, has been an inalienable part of Chinese territory since ancient times. However, as far as the origin and meaning of the term “Xinjiang” are concerned, Chinese and foreign scholars have always given different interpretations and even some have made distortions and fabricated them. It is necessary to make a more scientific and clear explanation of this issue.
