So far, 18 developed and developing countries have reported AIDS cases. The syndrome is characterized by severe cell-mediated immune deficiency and is often accompanied by Kaposi’s sarcoma. Pneumocystis pneumonia and other opportunistic infections that predict cellular immune deficiency are the major complications.
