The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), after a comprehensive investigation, has extended the conditional registration of Monsanto’s Bollgard for five years and is expected to soon make the decision to continue registering the BT toxin-expressing corn. BT Cotton and BT corn registration in the United States expired on September 30. Following the preliminary assessment in 2000, the risk and benefit assessment of correction was submitted in July last year. As an integral part of BT cotton’s continued registration, the EPA requires additional measures to ensure that its use is not harmful to human health
