In order to collect the marine and maritime weather information, the United States has established a large marine meteorological buoy network. The first batch of six XERB-1 type weighing 100 tons, 12.19 meters in diameter tower buoys. The first buoy was installed in deep water in the Gulf of Mexico at 125 nautical miles east of Virginia in early 1970. This type of buoy can automatically detect the wind direction, wind speed, precipitation, solar radiation, pressure, temperature, dew point and wave parameters, seawater flow velocity, sea temperature, salinity, and water velocity. The information obtained is passed to the Coast Guard Station in Miami. Power supply for two diesel engines, refuel once a year.
