钟敬文研究民俗学和民间文艺学的最初起点之一是译介印欧故事类型和编制中国故事类型,再发展成中日印故事类型比较,开辟多元文化框架下的故事与民俗比较研究领域,这对他后来建设中国民俗学和民间文艺学的资料系统、问题和方法都有帮助。在新时期兴起的跨文化对话中,对钟敬文的这批论文做集中整理和研究,扩大参考钟敬文与季羡林就其中的一些关键题目进行的对话,可以促进继承这笔学术遗产,吸取历史经验,推动跨文化研究走向深入。
