(At the State Department’s AFCEA January Critical Telecommunications Symposium, the director of the National Security Agency gave a straightforward talk to attendees on behalf of the Bureau on an unprecedented precedent for future security cryptography. Inman’s speech will be original.) As an incumbent director of the National Security Agency made a public speech on the mission of this Council, at least as far as I know is without precedent. This speech shows that there has been a major turning point in the NSA’s traditional approach, which will be the main topic for my speech. The fact that this group was chosen to make a speech on the new policy of open dialogue with the public is not by chance an indication of my high regard for the organization and its members and your contributions to the field of communications.
