Looking at the situation of economic development in various parts of the world in 1996, the fastest-growing areas belong to East Asia. Japan enjoyed a strong economic recovery in 1996, with the steady growth of “four small dragons”, “three small tigers” and the Chinese economy in Asia. The economic development in North America and Western Europe remains a difficult one. The Latin American countries have shown a glimmer of hope. The economies of Eastern European countries are slowly recovering. The economic growth in the Commonwealth of Independent States is still not optimistic. The African countries are gradually starting to get out of their predicament. In the meantime, with the acceleration of world economic integration in recent years, a situation of tripartite confrontation in the world economic structure has gradually taken shape. As a large developing country with rapid economic growth, China is facing tremendous development opportunities and challenges from all aspects. I.
