Objective To investigate the changes and clinical significance of serum C-reactive protein (CRP) in different stages of diabetic nephropathy. Methods Totally 102 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus were divided into normal albuminuria group (group A, n = 38), microalbuminuria group (group B, n = 34) and clinical albuminuria group according to 24 h urinary albumin (MAU) (C group, 30 cases), another 30 healthy people as the normal control group. Results Serum CRP level was significantly higher in the three groups of diabetic patients than in the normal control group (P <0.05). CRP level increased with the increase of urinary albumin and serum creatinine (P <0.05). Conclusions Serum CRP levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus gradually increase with the progress of diabetic nephropathy, which is of great significance for the occurrence, development and early prediction of diabetic nephropathy.
