该书由M. E. 希斯博士、R. F. 巴恩斯博士和D. S. 梅尔卡夫博士主编,美国和加拿大牧草生产和利用方面的专家、学者110余人合作撰写。第一版于1951年问世,此后每隔10年左右修订再版一次。1985年出了第四版,现已由中国农科院畜牧所黄文惠、苏加楷和张玉发负责组织国内35名专家、学者译校定稿,已交付农业出版社出版,即将与国内读者见面。全书共分五篇:第一篇为牧草和农业生产,共5章,主要阐述了牧草生产的重要性,草地农业和生态系统的概念,牧草与土壤、气候、经济的关系;第二篇为禾本科和豆科牧草,共26章,主要叙述生产上占重要地位的20余种豆科牧草和禾本科牧草的地理分
The book is authored by Dr. M. E. Heath, Dr. R. F. Barnes and Dr. D. S. Melkoff and contributed by more than 110 experts and scholars in pasture production and utilization in the United States and Canada. The first edition came out in 1951 and was revised and reprinted every 10 years thereafter. In 1985 the fourth edition, now by the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences Huang Wenhui, Su Kai and Zhang Yufa is responsible for organizing 35 domestic experts and scholars to translate the school final draft, has been delivered to agricultural publishing house, is about to meet with domestic readers. The book is divided into five chapters: the first chapter for forage and agricultural production, a total of 5 chapters, mainly elaborated the importance of forage production, grassland agriculture and ecosystem concepts, pasture and soil, climate, economy; the second is Gramineae and leguminous forages, a total of 26 chapters, mainly describes the production of the important position of the more than 20 species of leguminous pasture and grasses grass division
