基础隔震体系通过在建筑物基础和上部结构之间设置专门的橡胶隔震支座和耗能元件,形成柔性底层,称为隔震层。通过隔震层和耗能元件,将房屋结构与基础隔离开来,延长建筑物的自振周期,并将结构的位移集中于隔震层,建筑物上部结构类似于刚体平动一样,自身相对位移较小,建筑物结构基本上处于弹性工作状态,不会造成建筑物产生破坏或倒塌现象。
