The realistic hell and the paradise after death are two existing but fragmented worlds in Yu Hua’s “Seventh Day.” Yu Hua uses the real hell to contrast the post-death paradise and survive by death. In the description of the real world, Yu Hua followed Lu Xun’s tradition of criticizing the bad people of the country and severely criticized the “spectator” phenomenon. Yu’s death without a dead body after death is a depiction and sustenance of Yu Hua’s ideal world. His construction also tells us of Yu Hua’s attitude towards belief and his desire to establish an ideal society for his countrymen.
