2003年12月14日,北京大学考古文博学院师生对周原遗址进行调查时,在岐山县凤凰山南麓周公庙南、凤鸣镇北面的沟渠断面上发现周代甲骨2片,其中一号17字,二号38字,后者是迄今为止所见字数最多的周代甲骨。同时发现周公庙遗址规模较大,且多见先周时期遗物,其中包括大量建筑遗物如板瓦、空心砖和板砖等,表明该遗址曾经是一处重要的大型遗址,或可以与当时的都邑做某种程度的联系。2004年
