OBJECTIVE: To analyze the effect of disease awareness on the quality of life and mental status of cancer patients. Methods: A total of 268 cancer patients were enrolled in this study. EORTC QLQ-C30 was used to assess the quality of life of patients. HADS scale was used to assess anxiety and depression in patients. The overall health status / quality of life score of cancer patients was 51.5 points. The overall health status / quality of life score was 50.5 for those patients who became aware of the disease, and 52.5 for those who did not know the condition. The difference between the two was not statistically significant. Patients who were aware of the disease had higher functional scores (P <0.05, t-test) than those who did not know the disease, and there was no significant difference between the other items in the functional area and the symptom area. The average anxiety score of cancer patients was 7.25 points and the depression score was 6.18 points. The average anxiety score and the depression score of patients with known illness were 6.15 and 4.92, respectively, which were lower than those who did not know the disease (anxiety score 8.32, depression score 4.92) (all P <0.05, t test). Conclusion: Informing patients that the condition does not reduce the patient’s quality of life. Patients aware of the disease anxiety, depression is even lower.
