2011年“艺术学理论”正式升入一级学科行列,现在的一级学科“艺术学理论”实际上是对1994年在东南大学艺术学系最初建立的二级学科“艺术学”的更名。升门后的“艺术学理论”与“音乐与舞蹈学”“戏剧与影视学”“美术学”“设计学”成为艺术学确立的5个一级学科之一。中国一级学科“艺术学理论”以其独立的学科性质、学科定位、研究范围以及研究方法等作为一门学科呈现的相应的理论体系。作为艺术学理论下设的艺术史学亦被确立了新的研究面
