长期来许多人都致力于生产一种方形硅晶体用于光伏电池,但没有一种方法比得上莫托洛拉法成功。此方法所生产的基本上都是方形单晶硅,而目前采用的其它方法则只能生产方形多晶硅。多晶硅的太阳能转换效率低。设计成方形硅片有利于太阳能收集器的封装和增加收集面积。
Many people have long been committed to producing a square silicon crystal for photovoltaic cells, but none of the methods are comparable to the success of the so-called Motolol method. This method produces essentially mono-crystalline silicon, whereas other methods currently used only produce polycrystalline silicon. Polysilicon solar energy conversion efficiency is low. The design of a square silicon wafer facilitates the encapsulation of solar collectors and increases the collection area.
