Preface In recent years, some scholars who have studied the trade in the South China Sea have developed the history of China’s export ceramic industry into an independent discipline in the study of Southeast Asia. In contrast, metal artifacts such as copper and iron are often accompanied by inscriptions of varying lengths, disclosing the place of origin, age, donors, origin and purpose.
