威海高技术产业开发区是1991年3月6日经国务院批准的国家级开发区,由国家科委、山东省政府和威海市政府共同创办,也是全国三个火炬高技术产业开发区之一。威海大学、山东大学威海分校、哈尔滨工业大学威海分校、中科院西安光电子中试基地、中国科技开发院威海分院等一批大中专院校、科研机构和科技实体座落区内。开发区与美国的硅谷和日本的筑波科技城基本处在同一纬度上。这一区域,被国内外专家公认为发展高新技术的理想之地。
Weihai Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone is a state-level development zone approved by the State Council on March 6, 1991 and co-founded by the State Science and Technology Commission, Shandong Provincial Government and Weihai Municipal Government. It is also one of the three torch high-tech industrial development zones in China. Weihai University, Weihai Branch of Shandong University, Weihai Branch of Harbin Institute of Technology, Xi’an Photonics Pilot Base of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Weihai Branch of China Science and Technology Development Institute and a number of colleges and universities, scientific research institutions and technology entities located in the zone. The zone is basically on the same latitude as Silicon Valley in the United States and Japan’s Tsukuba Science City. This area has been recognized as the ideal place for developing high-tech by domestic and foreign experts.
