Purpose To verify that the Toronto Facial Nerve Assessment System has some flaws in the evaluation of senile Bell’s palsy. Methods Sixty-two patients were divided into young group (18-40 years old) and elderly group (66-80 years) by age. The two groups of patients treated by EA were compared within one month, three months and three months Facial nerve scores more than a month difference. Results There were significant differences in facial nerve scores between the two groups within one month (t1 = 3.40, P <0.01). The course of disease was within 3 months and above 3 months. There was no difference in facial nerve scores between the two groups Statistical significance (t2 = 0.23, P> 0.1; t3 = 0.33, P> 0.1). CONCLUSIONS: The Toronto Facial Nerve Assessment System has the drawback of underestimating the severity of the facial nerve in elder patients with mild-grade Bell’s palsy.
