The present invention describes a hydraulic impact device (such as a rock drill). The device is composed of a reciprocating driven ram piston for impacting the tail end of the drill rod, a support rod for axially supporting the drill rod and a support piston capable of sliding in the oil cylinder. The supporting piston receives a hydraulic pressure in the pressure chamber so as to urge the supporting rod to a prescribed front end position. The pressure chamber communicates with the high pressure oil flow, and the clearance between the moving surface of the support piston moving relative to the cylinder and the cylinder is small, thereby forming a small oil discharge passage in the pressure chamber. Supporting the piston and the pressure chamber form a buffer device, reducing the impact of equipment
