The term heterozygous leukemia refers to acute leukemia characterized by both lymphoid and granulocytic origin of monoclonal leukemia blasts. Gale and Ben-Bassat suggested that heterozygous leukemia be divided into “dual phenotype” leukemia and “double line” leukemia. The former refers to more than 10% of the original cells have dual markers of lymphocytes and granulocytes. The latter refers to a heterogeneous population of primitive cells that present both lymphoid and granulocytic characteristics, but is distinct from “bi-clonal” leukemias that have two distinct leukemic cell populations with their respective origin of clones. “Two line type” leukemia should occur simultaneously or later. And the time must be limited to six months, with the exception of treatment-induced leukemia and “double clonal” leukemia.
