沈从文与水上勉同为中日"乡土文学"中富有代表性的作家,两人在进行乡村文明与城市文明的对比中,展现了因现代工业文明的入侵而带来的对乡村文明的毁灭性后果,面对即将逝去的传统文明表现出无限的眷恋和深刻的焦虑不安,作品中均具有一种悲剧的情蕴和凄美的美学风格.乡土文明是民族传统文化之"根",把这两位极富代表性的乡土文学作家进行平行比较,不仅凸显两国乡土文学的根本特征,而且还折射出各自民族传统文化的本质特点.
